You Have Already Overcome Your Fear of Failure
It’s time to harness that knowledge to achieve your goals
I have failed often.
I have occasionally failed spectacularly. But one incident, a colossal failure, made me understand why my fear of failure was ridiculous. Once you adopt a mindset of something you already know, you will become bolder than you’ve ever been. Everything from launching a startup to grabbing that dream job will seem easier.
For me, it started like this. I was a radio DJ and was asked to introduce an oldies group called Little Anthony and the Imperials on the Tomorrowland stage at Disneyland. This stage used to rise from below ground.
What happened was similar to a “Want to get away?” commercial from Southwest Airlines. I stood in front of the band, who had begun to play as we rose to face the packed dance floor. With all the excitement I could muster, I shouted, “Here he is, Little Richard!” The band immediately stopped playing. Then the bass player jabbed his guitar into my back and whispered, “Wrong singer, dude.”
I was mortified. The adrenaline surge of excitement I had felt moments before was nothing compared to the racing thoughts and thundering heartbeat after the mistake. I semi-mumbled Little Anthony’s name and ran off the stage. To this day, I…
