I hadn't thought about it that way. I think you may be right.

While my ex-wife and I weren't married for 43 years, we still had some great times in our dozen years together and those should not be discounted. Also, we became friends a few years after divorcing, and it was enlightening to talk about our time together in ways we couldn't before.

We taught each other life lessons that we've carried into our new relationships.
